Journey to the lands of the Bible, as we depart and travel from the USA to Amman Jordan.
Welcome to the Jordan. Arrive in Amman. Start our pilgrimage Bible adventure in the capital of the kingdom of Jordan and the Bible-time capital of the Ammonites: Rabat Amon. The Land of the Ammonites & Moabites was given to the Tribe of Reuben. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is viewed as an anchor in the Middle East politics. Amman today is a vibrant and lively city. We arrive to our 5 star hotel the Regency Palace Amman for a good night’s sleep.
This morning we’ll be traveling to Mount Nebo where Moses had a glimpse of the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 34:1-5). An interesting visit to the Byzantine mosaics of Madaba and St. George’s Church reveals an ancient map of early trade routes. In Madaba Plains dig site of Heshbon, a consortium of Andrews University, La Sierra University, and Walla Walla University archeological digs has been going on for over 40 years. We’ll travel the old King’s Highway through Edomite territory past the crusader castles of Kerak, the capital city of Moab, to the world wonder beautiful city of Petra. We check in to the best accommodation in town, the Movenpick Petra Park 5-star Hotel, for a great dinner and an overnight, Petra.
Today will be an unforgettable day spent in the ancient Rose Red City of Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, with its magnificent rock-hewn temples and tombs suggesting royalty. We’ll ride horses, walk through the siq which ends in a breath taking view of the ‘Treasury,’ climb to the High Altar and up to the Monastery where in the distance you can view Petra’s highest peak— Jebel Haroun, the site of Aaron’s Tomb. We’ll stroll through the Nabataean village with its 7000 seat amphitheater, cobblestone streets, and houses tucked into caves along the rose rock walled city. If you feel like an “Indiana Jones” you’re totally right – this is where the movie was filmed. We’ll have a great lunch at the 5-star movenpick, with many local dishes and middle-eastern salads. The desert, Om-Ali, is something you’ll surely miss... afternoon time around the pool for reflection and rest. Dinner and overnight at this great location. Those who wish can join the (optional) night spectacle visit at Petra park.
Today we say goodbye to the wonders of Petra and head up to the Lowest Point on the face of the earth, and to an amazing natural wonder of the world – the Dead Sea. The physical & mental health benefits of this unique sea have become world famous, already at the ancient times. People come from all over the world to spend time here, and to float in these mineral rich waters. The surroundings and the views are simply dazzling, and the unique combination of water and desert, the blue and the brown, has a unique effect. We’ll have enough time here to relax, to float in the sea, to rest at the pool, to book spa treatments and take in God’s beauty and majesty. This is shabat – let’s make it Shabat-shalom.We’ll have dinner and stay overnight in our deluxe hotel at the Dead Sea.
After a great breakfast and a sound rest, we head north to the Decapolis city of Jerash. This is one of the best examples of a Roman Provincial city that is remarkably well preserved. We visit the Roman Cardo, the beautiful colonnade, bath-house, and more. Enjoy lunch at Jerash, and then we continue thru the Jabesh-Gilead region (1 Samuel 11), the area where Jacob wrestled all night with the angel Gabriel (Genesis 32:22-32) and where the profit Elijah is believed to be from (1 Kings 17: 1- 6). Then it’s time to re-enact Joshua 3 – as we cross the River Jordan into the Promised Land! Well, don’t be alarmed as we would not need the Lord to stop the water, there is an official border cross and a bridge our bus takes over the river. Welcome to the Promised Land, and welcome to Israel. We drive in the Jordan Valley and reach the Sea of Galilee. Our hotel is perfectly situated near the Sea of Galilee. Or better we say it’s situated ON the Sea of Galilee shore, as our hotel has a private beach of the Sea of Galilee, and the views of the Golan Bashan heights are simply breathtaking. Dinner and overnight at the Gai Beach resort hotel in Tiberius Sea of Galilee.
Good morning as we witness the sun rising over the magical Sea of Galilee. After a hearty Israeli breakfast buffet we start our sightseeing with a visit to the Mount of Beatitudes, the site of the Sermon on the Mount. Sit among friends & family and enjoy the good breeze as Pastor Bill repeats Christ’s words to us at this original cornerstone of our faith. Continue to Tabgha, site of the miracle of the multiplication of the "loaves and fishes". Proceed to Capernaum to visit the Synagogue where Jesus founded his ministry and taught. Visit Peter's mother-in-law's house. Next we visit Mensa Christi (John 21) where Jesus had breakfast with Peter ("Do you love me, do you love me, do you love me") Then we visit a ‘Kibbutz’ which shows the original ancient boat going back to the time of Jesus. We’ll enjoy this opportunity to be close to our Lord, in meditation, song and praise. We’ll teach you Folk Hebrew Dancing in the sun and warm breeze while on a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Good time to reflect about the holy sites we’ve witnessed and for prayer. We’ll arrive at our restaurant at the Sea of Galilee shore for a St. Peter fish lunch. That afternoon we go to the River Jordan for a Baptismal renewal. View the Golan-Heights (the Bashan Heights). Then after this spiritual and exciting day we arrive back at our Gai Beach hotel for dinner and overnight in Tiberius Sea of Galilee.
Luke 9 describes the Transfiguration; today we’ll travel to the northern most region of Israel, the area given to the Tribe of Dan (Joshua 19:40-51). We travel through the Hula Valley near Mount Hermon, highest mountain in Israel, the Mount of Transfiguration, visiting Biblical park and nature reserve of Tel Dan. Here the first ever mentioning of the House of David was discovered, as just a few decades ago the Tel Dan stele of King David was unearthed. We also get to see the oldest arch in the world, dating to approx. 1800BC, and believed to have been visited by Abraham in his journey into the Promised Land. We’ll also visit Banias, one of the headwaters of the Jordan River and the site of Caesarea Philippi where Peter confessed Christ’s divinity (Luke 9). And now for a refreshing surprise: we raft the clam (not white water) waters of the river Jordan, enjoying the beauty and serenity of this important water source for the Holy Land inhabitants for over 4000 years now. After this pleasant time of fellowship, we return back to our beautiful Sea of Galilee resort. You may wish to swim in the waters, or enjoy the Spa, complimentary for our group. Dinner and overnight Sea of Galilee.
Start this morning as we drive through Cana, site of the First Miracle of Jesus, "Turning water into wine at the wedding ceremony". On to Nazareth, the city of Joseph and Mary, to visit Mary’s Well and the site of the Annunciation. Then we drive through the Jezreel Valley to the great prophetic city of Armageddon (Revelation 16:16), the city of King Solomon and King Ahab. Walk through the remains of this well-preserved biblical city, explore the secret tunnel and water system going back 3000 years. Then we ascend to the top of Mt. Carmel - where Elijah demonstrated the power of God (I Kings 18) and fought the 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Ashtaroth. Enjoy the superb view from the rooftop of the Carmelite monastery while Pastor Bill teaches us here at the same spot the miracle took place. We conclude this magical day with a visit at Caesarea to see the city built by Herod the Great and named for his benefactor, Augustus Caesar. Paul landed here several times and from here was sent in chains to Rome for trial (Acts 10, 21, 23 and 24). This place is of great importance to every pastor and Christian – for this is the site where the first conversion into Christianity took place (Peter converts the Gentile Centurion Cornelius, Acts 10:34-44). Nowadays this is an impressive archaeological park situated on the shore of the Mediterranean waters, with a massive Roman Theatre, Hippodrome for horse and chariot races, Palaces, Roman bathhouses and much more. A most important finding originating from here is the Pontius Pilate pillar, proving wrong those many Bible deniers who tried to claim that Jesus was never tried and that the accounts of the holy Gospel never took place. The more you dig out of the ground – the more the Bible proves to be true! Pastor Bill will conclude our day of pilgrimage with a message at this key spot – where the gospel broke out to the nations. Return to our hotel in Tiberias for another great dinner and overnight at the Sea of Galilee.
Today we go up to Zion – To Jerusalem! We first visit Beth She'an, a superbly preserved Canaanite, Roman and Byzantine city along the Jordan Valley. It is here where the bodies of Saul and Jonathan were put on the city walls by the Philistines (II Samuel 1, 21-22). Explore the Cardo, Decomanus, Agora, climb up the Tel and view Mt. Gilboa. Continue through the Jordan Valley, and the beautiful hills of Samaria, view Jericho, the oldest city on earth, and view the Mt. of Temptation (Luke 4) and onto Elisha's spring. We start climbing up to Zion on the old Roman road. We can view the curves of the ancient road leading from Galilee to Zion that was used at the time of Jesus ("the valley of the shadow of Death"). We enter the holy city Jerusalem and head to the Mt. of Olives observation point. Standing here in the footsteps of Jesus looking over to: the Temple Mount, the old city of Jerusalem, the golden Dome of the Rock, David's city, the Garden tomb, and the modern city. “A song of ascents of David / I was glad when they said to me “Let us go to the House of the Lord” / Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem!” (Paslms 122). Dinner and overnight in our 5-star hotel – the Leonardo Plaza – perfectly located in the heart of Jerusalem.
Good Morning – Praise the Lord in Jerusalem! We go to the Israeli Museum with the Model of Jerusalem at the time of Jesus. Continue to the Shrine of the Book and see the amazing Dead Sea scrolls, maybe the most important archeological finding in the history: each and every one of the books of the Bible.
The book of Isaiah was found on 2000 year old ancient scrolls, near Qumran Dead Sea. This priceless discovery put a concrete end to claims of any Bible-deniers who try to relate to the Holy Books as "stories" or "mythology". Once dug out of the ground, after waiting in silence in the desert for 2000 years to be discovered – this is a true and physical connection to our roots. Then we’ll have a chance to visit the beautiful city of Bethlehem, and visit the place our Savior was born. First we enjoy a terrific and fresh lunch at the Shepard’s fields. Then we visit the church of the Shepard’s fields, where the three shepherds had the vision of the Messiah soon to be born. We enjoy great acoustics as we worship here. We also read the story of Ruth and Boaz, which took place here. Then we continue to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, one of the oldest churches in the Holy Land and in the world. After this exciting day, we greet each other shabat-shalom, and have the pleasure of accepting the Sabbath in Jerusalem. The shabat celebration start at this time – and it’s a very festive and joyful time to rejoice and give thanks to the Lord while we are in Jerusalem. There will be a Special Sabbath dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Wake up saying Shabat shalom in Jerusalem! What a great start! We’ll descend a bit south-east to "no-man's land", in the wilderness of Judea. View Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. We take the cable car ride up to visit the amazing fortress of Masada. This World Heritage site tells the remarkable story of the brave zealots who fought the Romans for the right to worship the only one God of Israel. Walk to the Northern Palace of King Herod the great, sit and pray here in one of the most ancient synagogues in the world, see the breaching point and the Roman Ramp, and visit the chapel. Have our Sabbath morning service in one of the oldest synagogues in the world, next to the Northern Palace. View Sodom and Gomorrah. Afternoon we drive up to the nature reserve of Ein Gedi, view the Waterfalls of King David at Ein Gedi. This beautiful oasis is where young David hid from King Saul (I Samuel 24) and where David wrote many of the Psalms. After this uplifting day we ascend back up to Jerusalem to our 5-star hotel for a good dinner and overnight in our hotel in the center of Jerusalem.
This morning we head up to the Temple - Mt Moriah (where Abraham brought his only son Isaac as a sacrifice, where the first and second temples were built, where today stands the Golden Dome). Stand where the Holy of Holiest was. Stand at the Eastern Gate, where Jesus astonished the wise man and rabbis & where Jesus turned over the money-changers tables. We’ll explore this sacred top, and then spend time in Jerusalem with visits to the places where our Lord spent his final days and hours. First we go to the Lithostratus, the paved road - in the Fortress of Antonia, here Pontius Pilate made judgment over Christ. On this holy ground we’ll retrace the events in the final hours of our Lord's life on Earth. Time to praise - for here we’re definitely "Standing on Holy Ground". We’ll continue to the "Pool of Bethesda" where Jesus healed the paralytic (John 5), and visit the Church of St. Ann, birthplace of Mary. This is the best preserved Crusader Church in the Holy Land. We’ll enjoy its heavenly acoustics and have time to worship there.
We’ll continue through the St. Stevens gate to visit to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus spent his last night before being extradited to the Romans, and visit the magnificent church of all nations, with the beautiful mosaic depicting the events that took place in the Garden (Mark 14). Be sure to see the altar, built upon the very rock of agony on which Jesus wept and sweat blood. On through the Kidron Valley (Zechariah 12) and see the tomb of Absalom son of David. Visit the Western Wall , the Wailing Wall, and put our prayers notes into these eternal stones. We’ll continue by visiting St. Peter in Galcanto, the home of the high priest Chiapas, and read Psalm 88 at this dark pit. We then conclude this amazing day of pilgrimage with a special highlight: visit the Garden Tomb, and have a special communion service next to the empty tomb. ("He is not here for he has risen" Matthew 28:6). We’ll then head back to our hotel for dinner and overnight in our 5-star Hotel in the center of Jerusalem.
This day is for you to enjoy as you like, to rest and relax, to return to your favorite spots in Jerusalem that touched your heart the most, or to use your free time to maybe visit the Yad Vashem holocaust museum.
This evening we have our Last Supper together in Jerusalem, our farewell banquet, and head out to the airport to prepare for our flight back home if we have a late evening or night flight – or if we have a morning flight, overnight in our hotel in Jerusalem.
This morning we drive to the airport for our flight back home. Board our flight home after an experience of a lifetime. After walking these days in the footsteps of Our Lord and in his presence – The Bible is now more alive, more familiar, and more personal. We’ll arrive back home same date.
